Private Moroccan Cooking Class in the Atlas Mountains

By nine in the morning the city is already behind you. The road climbs through red valleys and Berber villages, snow-capped peaks holding the horizon, and roughly an hour and a half after your driver collected you at your riad, you arrive at a family home perched in the mountains. The air is cool and clean. Coals are already glowing.

This day suits travellers who would rather learn a place through its table than its monuments — couples, families, anyone curious enough to roll couscous by hand and patient enough to let a tagine take its time.

The morning unfolds the way it has for generations in this house. You cook alongside the family: a slow tagine over coals, fresh khobz bread, couscous worked by hand, mint tea poured from height. Then you sit down to the lunch you prepared, the valley spread below, with no reason to hurry. Aprons, ingredients and printed recipe cards are all provided — you simply arrive and cook. In the afternoon, your driver returns you to Marrakech.
