Little Hands — A Children's Atelier Afternoon in Marrakech

On quote Marrakech

It is three in the afternoon in a quiet riad courtyard. The tile floor is cool underfoot, a fountain ticks somewhere behind the orange trees, and four small heads are bent over low tables. One child presses chips of glazed tile into a tray of fresh plaster. Another draws a long reed pen across paper, copying the curve of a letter. Across the courtyard, a door closes softly on the steam of a private hammam, where the parents are about to do nothing at all for two hours.

This afternoon is built for families with children roughly four to twelve, and for parents who would like an hour to breathe. The children stay in one calm, supervised space with artisans and animators who work at a child's pace. The parents are a short walk away, warm and unhurried, with tea waiting. Everyone comes back together at the end.

What's arranged

  • A supervised children's atelier with vetted animators and working artisans, capped to a small group
  • Four hands-on stations rotated to suit each age: henna, reed-pen calligraphy, a tile mosaic to keep, and the making of a small hand drum
  • A private hammam and tea ritual for the parents in a partner spa, booked for the same window
  • A reunion snack in the courtyard where the children show and explain what they made
  • Each child leaves with their finished mosaic and drum to carry home

Good to know

  • Indoor and courtyard setting, gentle on the day; best in the afternoon when the heat has eased
  • Henna is the natural reddish-brown kind only, and stations are chosen by age so the youngest are never left behind
  • Plan about three hours; children are supervised at all times and parents stay within easy reach
  • Suited to mixed-age siblings and to multigenerational groups where the adults want a slower hour
